  • ATS and Indeed Integration: What UK Employers Should Check Before Choosing

Indeed dominates UK job search to an extent that’s easy to underestimate until you look at your own application data. For most UK employers, a significant share of applicants now arrive through Indeed — which means how well your applicant tracking system (ATS) integrates with it directly affects how many good candidates you actually reach, and how many you lose to faster-moving competitors.

Why “we integrate with Indeed” isn’t enough

Almost every modern ATS claims Indeed integration. The claim on its own tells you very little. What matters is the depth of that integration, and specifically:

    • Can you control the apply method job-by-job? Some roles suit Indeed Easy Apply, where candidates apply in a couple of clicks using their existing Indeed profile. Others — particularly roles requiring DBS checks, competency questions, or detailed screening — need candidates redirected to a fuller application form on your own careers site. A good integration lets you choose per role, not force one approach across your entire vacancy list.
    • Does it track source and application method? You need visibility into which candidates came via Indeed, and via which method, so you can judge whether Easy Apply or redirect is working better for a given role over time.
    • Does it support screening questions on Easy Apply? Low-friction applications are great for volume, but for some roles you still need to filter for basics like right to work or a required qualification before an application lands in front of a hiring manager.
    • Does it sync disposition data back to Indeed? When your ATS reports back how quickly you’re responding to candidates, Indeed can award your job listings a “responsive employer” badge — a meaningful visibility advantage in a crowded market.

Why speed matters more than it used to

Recruitment has become noticeably two-speed. Employers using integrated, fast-response processes are engaging strong candidates within hours; those relying on manual processes can take days, by which point good candidates have often accepted a competing offer. This is precisely why Indeed introduced responsive employer badges — and why AI-assisted shortlisting tools have become genuinely useful for handling higher volumes of Easy Apply candidates without missing your strongest applicants.

Questions to ask any ATS vendor

Before signing anything, ask vendors directly:

    1. Can we set Easy Apply or redirect-to-website independently, on a role-by-role basis?
    2. What reporting do we get on Indeed-sourced applicants, broken down by application method?
    3. Can we add screening questions to Easy Apply applications for specific roles?
    4. Does the system pass disposition data back to Indeed to support responsive employer badges?
    5. How does the integration help us handle high volumes of applications quickly and fairly?

    The bigger picture

Your Indeed presence — including reviews and ratings — is also increasingly referenced by AI-powered job search tools when candidates research employers, which means the way you handle Indeed applicants is becoming part of your wider employer brand, not just a recruitment process detail.

Choosing an ATS with genuinely strong Indeed integration isn’t about ticking a box on a feature list. It’s about whether you have the control and visibility to compete for candidates in a market where Indeed dominates and speed is now a real competitive advantage.
